PABLO PICASSO -ARTIST

Pablo Picasso today is known to be one of the most important figures, if not the most important figure, of 20th century; in terms of art/art movements.
The Spanish born artist become one of the most recognised modern art artist, with the most distinct style and eye for artistic creation. Pablo Picasso was the introduction of cubism, and modern approach to painting, which was part of the movements to follow in to the 20th century. His art was seen to be ‘ahead of his time’; even with its volume of impact that still occurs today.
On a more personal level as an artist myself, I feel he is the basis of this worldwide art movement and he is the foundations to what cubism is and will be for my lifetime.

He has impacted my way of thinking, changing how I think and looking at the other perspective of what is more abstract art.

CUBISM INSPIRED MAKE-UP- Artists Interpretations

ALEX BOX

“This one work made on human skin, taking Cubism as its theme, an early-20th-century avant-garde art movement pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Geometric lines clearly revealed through colour contrast which is dominated by red and white, with purple as an accent. Also can be seen a bit of glitter effect, bringing a dramatic and futuristic look. What makes this work more special, is a touch of Alex, which really makes it look like a painting, could outwit anyone who saw it for the first time.”

'MAIN DESIGN INSPIRATIONS' MOODBOARD

A MOODBOARD EXPRESSING MY MAIN INSPIRATIONS AND IMPACTS THAT WILL STIMULATE AND TRANSLATE INTO MY FINAL IDEAS

Friday, 10 April 2015

Initial Design Idea 1

Self Evaluation
POSITIVES
-Good interpretation of theme- following structure and format of CUBISM art
-Good application of colour scheme and pattern matched to my theme
-A challenging piece but achievable with determination
-Creative, Impacting and Remember-able Design

NEGATIVES
Is the Scale of work achievable in time frame? realistic?

Overall: Very Pleased with how this design turned out, I think it will give me enough work to show my strengths and highlight my theme to a high level. It incorporates a high level of skills and would appeal to creative eyes. Plus it would look striking on a Catwalk.

Initial Design Idea 2

Self Evaluation:
POSITIVES:
LOVE the neck/shoulder sculpture piece idea!
Compared to previous design, it carries a good level of CUBISM themes within the design
It works well as a whole image with all accessories linking in affectively
Its creative and practical for purpose

NEGATIVES:
For me personally, the TOP section of the bodice lets the design down, I was trying to create a colour/design contrast to the piece but I feel it may have now confused the piece.
Also feel it may be too busy.. too much going on?
Some of it doesn't fit in with the theme? bodice.

Overall: The accessories on this design are equally if not stronger then the other designs. However to me the Bodice section isn't working strong enough with the rest of the design; looks out of place.

Initial Design Idea 3

Self Evaluation:
POSITIVES:
Pleased with the concept I created, use of structure to my design is strong.
Good theme match; colours, texture ideas and sculpture ideas.
Pleased with the shoulder piece idea; definitely a must have in my chosen design!

NEGATIVES:
Not sure the concept works effectively enough; feel its very TYPICAL of an idea.
Feel it's not experimental enough for my creative skill.
It isn't as challenging as the others; maybe a bit obvious/boring.

Overall: I feel this is my least favourite of the 3 designs; purely on the level it appeals to me the least. Reasons: its very typical and obvious in terms of how my theme could be recreated. Not very experimental and wont push me as much as the others.

My Final Chosen Design

Reasoning's Behind my Final Choice:

As a whole I found that this piece reflected my vision the best!
It reflects my theme in the strongest way matching with what I want to achieve
It was pleasing to the eye and creative, giving me a challenge and pushing me to develop.
The Skills base of the idea was strong and had multiple techniques and skills incorporated.

PROCESS OF MAKING - 'Step By Step'

In this Section it will show you my creative Final Idea take form. It will show you my application of knowledge and skill within Costume/Textiles Design and Making. It will also highlight modifications and changes I made throughout the production stages along side self evaluations and critics.

COSTUME MAKING PART 1

Evaluation
of Costume Making Development 1:

Positives:
The concept was easily achieved once I worked out measurements etc.
A Clear and Skilled understanding of this concept; due to previous studies in Textiles.

Negatives:
If I was to be critical and do this part again, I think I would definitely make my model present to double check before measures I have made cannot be reversed.

COSTUME MAKING PART 2

MODIFICATIONS:
This Stage of making was very planned out, so modifications weren't really required.
The only slight tweak I made was the use of material in terms of printing,  I used photo paper instead of art paper to print on, giving a cleaner and 'showy' finish to the pieces.

Evaluation:
POSITIVES
- Clean look and finish to the decorative pieces
-Clear theme and resemblance to my designing of ideas
-Colourful and Correct in terms of relationship to my ideas and theme.

NEGATIVES
- For me on a personal level, the one negative to this, was the time I wasted mapping things out and preparing, I spent too much time worrying and faffing with the finer details- when actually they ironed themselves out as I worked on the creative pieces.

COSTUME MAKING PART 3

MODIFICATIONS MADE AT THIS STAGE OF MAKING:
When I constructed together my initial base of my skirt piece using my own made pattern pieces, I noticed when applying to manikin and to self that the material size was pretty heavy. This resulted in me modifying and changing lengths and widths quite a few times till I got the scale correct and the shape right. This also created a slight modification to the size of each pattern piece.

EVALUATION:
POSITIVES
- Good knowledge input to the work I carried out, strong understanding of my task allowing me to modify and change anything effectively and professionally.
- Pleased with the shape outcome and my choice of modifications

NEGATIVES
- For this stage again I would (next time I do it) make the model present to help out with measurements, not just working from a piece of paper with written measurements but actually the model herself in 3D.

Saturday, 4 April 2015

COSTUME MAKING PART 4

MODIFICATIONS MADE AT THIS STAGE:
Mola Sample:
There was a few elements of simple tweaking that was needed on the Mola Sample section, simple things like I hadn't taken into account the volume of material, so pinning was required at a more frequent occurrence.
Another thing was I had to slightly modify the design, simply so the image was be clearer on the design; this changed because of my scale of design became a little shorter (due to my model being smaller then your average size)

Cubism Illustrations for Shoes:
This stage went very smoothly, due to a well planned technique (Mola again) this stage was very straight forward but a good use of my skill-base.
One slight modification that was made was I decided to mount the pieces with card, to allow application to be stronger in structure and hold. Due to care being easily to glue to and supple with the shapes required.

EVALUATION:
POSITIVES:
This Stage of making was very straight forward and not much of a hiccup in comparison to other stages. I was very pleased with the outcome and it fitted my visual and first-hand ideas that I design for these features within my Design.

NEGATIVES:
One negative I would announce, would be the attention to detail was a challenge. Working with the volume of fabric made it very hard to prepare the work in my neatest format, However with a bit of persistence I managed to tweak that rough edges afterwards.

COSTUME MAKING PART 5

MODIFICATIONS:
Creations with Boning:
Modifications were minor with this section, just a slight change of application product to the boning, simply just used a hot glue gun to secure the boning due to purchases a boning with a solid centre (meaning a could not machine sew within it- or it would break the needle). Easily solved!

Creations with Zip Section:
This whole section was a modifications, unfortunately when I was stitching and completing the skirt linings and seam allowances, I lost a amount of measurement resulting in my waist being a bit tight for my Models measurements. So when i went to apply the Zip I came up with this idea of adding a 'zip section' to give me more width around the waist and a bit of leniency with the measurements. It worked effectively just as I had hoped it would!

Creations with Shoulder:
This was only the first preparations for this section- so all was smooth running.

EVALUATION:
POSITIVES:
Good production, safely applied and well produced.
Pleased with the overall image of the Boning sections, clean and tidy to the edge.
Overall very pleased with the turn out with clear links to my design ideas/theme.

NEGATIVES:
Due to the changes in the Zip Section and having to recreate the concept of this section to help get my width back, it was a challenge and was a negative due to putting a stall in my work plans. However, it was easily reorganised and resolved.
